NASHVILLE, January 26, 2016– On Tuesday, Tennessee State Representative Andy Holt (R-Dresden) called for Tennessee Democratic Chairwoman Mary Mancini’s resignation in response to her attack on Republican leadership.
“Mary seems to be a one trick show,” said Holt. “Not a single shred of evidence of any wrongdoing regarding misconduct, which would warrant the resignation of House Speaker Beth Harwell, House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick or Caucus Chairman Glen Casada has been presented, yet Mary rushes to the cameras to call for resignations. This is essentially her one and only trick. Quite frankly, it’s starting to become a joke. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?”
Holt’s resignation request is in response to the use of a famous question, delivered by the late U.S. Senator Howard Baker (R-TN) during the Watergate hearings, “What did they know and when did they know it?” used by Mancini while demanding the resignation of GOP leaders in regard to accusations of sexual misconduct cast against Tennessee State Rep. Jeremy Durham (R-Franklin).
“Mary has the audacity to try and create some pseudo smoking gun by asking what leadership knew and when did they know it,” said Holt. “That is an awfully bold question for the state leader of a party that is doing everything it can to elect a woman by the name of Hillary Clinton. Clinton, in order to protect her own political agenda and power, knowingly worked to silence the voice of countless innocent young women that were sexually assaulted by her husband; the most powerful man in the world at the time, President Bill Clinton.”
Holt went on to say that unless Mancini is willing to denounce Hillary Clinton as a candidate for her party’s nomination, then she is complicit in the sexual assault of innocent young women.
“Until Mary is willing to denounce Clinton as a candidate, she is waging a war against innocent women for political gain just as Hillary did,” said Holt. “She should look up ‘double-standard’ in the dictionary before going on camera again, or simply resign tomorrow morning.”
